Ford Racing Technology is partnering with Multimatic Motorsports to revive the racing spirit of the Mustang with the creation of the Competition Mustang racecar.

Mustangs have stormed to victory at race tracks across America for more than 40 years a legacy that will continue with the Competition Mustang, which is based on the new-for-2005 Mustang GT road car.

The Competition Mustang powered by a 5-liter "Cammer" V8, is factory-engineered using the latest in race car technologies, structurally optimized and tuned for performance, durability and safety.

Multimatic Motorsports has been entrusted by Ford to design and build the new racer, which will compete in the Grand-Am Cup and other major production car street stock series throughout North America.

While the new racecar will be available for purchase by professional and amateur racers alike, Multimatic Motorsports will lead the assault for Ford with a fully factory supported team for 2005.

Multimatic has played a key role for Ford in the development of vehicles for both road and track. Based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, the company is one of Ford Motor Company's top nine global suppliers.

Multimatic has an outstanding track record in endurance racing. It teamed with Ford to debut the Ford Focus Daytona Prototype at the Daytona 24 Hour in 2003, winning the first ever race for the highly competitive new sports car division.

Multimatic also won the P2 class at the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans - the only victory by a Canadian-based team in the history of the race.

Multimatic and Ford have run and won with the Mustang brand in the past in street stock competition, taking major victories throughout the U.S. and Canada and earning Ford the 1999 manufacturer's championship.

Ford has already earned acclaim for the 2005 Mustang on the road. Now Multimatic will help Ford do battle on the track against leading competitors such as BMW, Cadillac, Porsche and Nissan.
