The Drivers
Multimatic is no stranger to success in this series, taking the overall team’s and driver’s championship in 2002 with Canadian star Scott Maxwell leading the charge.
Maxwell will again join forces with his 2002 team-mate David Empringham in 2005 to form an all-Canadian combination.
The second Multimatic entry will fly the “stars and stripes” with young American driver Gunnar Jeannette teaming up with James Gue.
Multimatic’s outstanding Grand-Am Cup record also includes second place in the team’s championship in 1999 with the previous model Mustang, the Ford Mustang Cobra SVT.
The result by Multimatic also earned Ford the manufacturer’s championship that year.
In 1998, Ford was runner-up in the manufacturer’s title, Multimatic finished third in the team’s championship and Maxwell claimed third in the driver’s title.
The Maxwell/Empringham combination also teamed up with David Brabham to take the first ever class victory for the new Daytona Prototype division in the Rolex 24 Hour in 2003.
Empringham has also enjoyed a stellar open wheel racing career, winning the Formula Atlantic Championship in 1993 and ‘94 and claiming the Indy Lights title in 1996.
Jeannette and Gue grew up in the sport with both their fathers running leading teams in US sports car racing.
Jeannette was the youngest ever driver to contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans and put in a starring performance in 2003 when he led the Panoz factory team to 5th place in the 24 Hour - equaling its best ever result.
Gue finished second in the P2 championship in this year’s American Le Mans Series with two victories and also drove in a number of Rolex Series events in a Multimatic Ford Focus.
