Ford Bronco DR

A turnkey, V8-powered desert racer engineered with Ford Racing for Baja-level endurance.

Overview

Multimatic Motorsports and Ford Racing continue their legacy of innovation with the Ford Bronco DR (Desert Racer), a first-of-its-kind, limited-production, turnkey desert racing SUV, engineered specifically for off-road use. Designed to excel in the world’s most punishing events, including the SCORE Baja 1000, the Bronco DR elevates the already formidable capability of the production Bronco four-door SUV.

Purpose-built for competition, the Bronco DR is powered by a third-generation 5.0-litre Ford Coyote V8, targeting 400+ horsepower, and paired with a 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission and a part-time, selectable 4×4 system with permanently locked hubs for maximum durability and traction across extreme terrain.

Its suspension system features Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV™ dampers with 80 mm bodies and finned cooling channels, delivering race-grade control, consistency, and heat management. Suspension travel reaches 400 mm at the front and 443 mm at the rear, figures that underscore the Bronco DR’s desert-racing pedigree. A Multimatic-designed billet aluminium lower control arm further enhances strength and precision.

The chassis integrates a Multimatic safety cage with OE ACCRA® tubes, fully FEA-optimised for crash performance, stiffness, and energy management. A rear-mounted radiator and a 65-gallon (246-litre) fuel cell improve weight distribution and high-speed cooling capacity while supporting long-distance endurance racing.

Inside, the two-seat cockpit is equipped with Recaro race seats, competition harnesses, and MoTec instrumentation and data acquisition, with optional telemetry to support professional team operation. The exterior employs functional, lightweight composite bodywork shaped for durability, cooling efficiency, and high-speed desert performance.

Proving its capability on the global stage, the Bronco DR has earned an undefeated class record with wins at the NORRA 1000, Vegas to Reno, and the iconic Baja 1000, cementing its reputation as a modern off-road icon and the ultimate embodiment of Ford’s “Built Wild” philosophy.

For Multimatic, the Bronco DR represents the ultimate expression of motorsport-driven engineering, combining advanced suspension technology, structural innovation, and race-proven performance into a machine built for desert racing’s toughest challenges.
