With just two races remaining in the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the title fight is intensifying. Both Multimatic Motorsports-run Ford Mustang GT3s finished on the podium at Virginia International Raceway on August 23, keeping Ford Racing firmly in Championship contention.
Dennis Olsen and Ben Barker brought the #64 Mustang home in second place to secure their best result of the season so far, while Frédéric Vervisch and Chris Mies finished close behind in third in the #65 Mustang, earning their third podium of the year.
After starting sixth (#64) and ninth (#65), getting both Mustangs on the podium was a true team effort, combining smart strategy, strong execution, and determined drives from all four drivers.
“We knew that we were due a strong result,” said #64 Mustang driver, Ben Barker. “Despite a bit of bad luck to start the season, we have a tremendous team that works well together and a very competitive Mustang GT3 so it was only a matter of time.”
“The team did a great job, and strategy was key,” commented #65 Mustang driver, Chris Mies. “When you start from ninth, you have to take a bit of a risk with strategy in order to work your way forward. I’m very happy placing third, especially since we beat all of our main championship rivals. We’ve gained ground on them with two races to go. Our Mustang GT3 is very much in the championship fight.”
The 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship now heads into its final two rounds, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on September 20 and Road Atlanta on October 3, with everything still to play for in the GTD PRO title fight.
