Multimatic Motorsports had a couple of tough races at Snetterton this weekend, close to the home of its European technical centre in Thetford.
Scott Maxwell made it three Multimatic pole positions in a row during the first of Saturday’s two qualifying sessions, whilst Alistair MacKinnon did a great job to take 10th place on his Mustang debut. Qualifying for the second race resulted in 10th place for Seb Priaulx in the #15 Ford and 22nd for Ben Devlin in the #19 car.
When Race 1 got underway on Sunday morning, Maxwell got off to a great start in the #15 Mustang, even when battling GT3 cars got in the way of the GT4 race. He slipped down two positions but had regained one of them by the end of the next lap. He stayed on the tail of the leader until the pit window opened and dived in to hand over to Priaulx. This is where the race unravelled as the success penalty from winning the last race at Oulton Park put the #15 right down the order after the stops. Priaulx managed to make up a couple of spots during his stint but had to settle for 13th place at the flag. The #19 Ford Mustang had a similarly difficult race, finishing in 19th position in GT4.
An uneventful Race 2 gave little opportunity for the Mustangs to make headway but despite this Scott Maxwell managed to hustle the #15 Mustang from 12th to sixth before the flag. The #19 car finished in 13th place in the GT4 class.
The good news is that it isn’t long for everyone to wait for the next round, which takes place at Silverstone in just two weeks…with no success penalty.
“We’re carrying a lot more weight since Oulton Park so every pass we make is a desperation move as we have no straight line speed,” said Multimatic Chief Technical Officer, Larry Holt. “Having said Scott managed to claw his way up to sixth in GT4 so all credit to him.”
